“If someone wishes for good health, one must first ask oneself if he is ready to do away with the reasons for his illness. Only then is it possible to help him.”

– Hippocrates

“Stroke: Giving up. Resistance. Rather die than change. Rejection of life “

“High Blood Pressure: It is caused by repressed anger or grief. Simply put, it is an accumulation of the inner pressure. Individuals suffering from this condition experience difficulty in trusting others, even themselves.”

After I had a stroke, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. It took a year and a half of various prescriptions of high blood pressure medicines to regulate my blood pressure. I knew the onset of my hypertension was not because of my healthy eating lifestyle, but according to the diagnosis of my physicians and me knowing my body, it was concluded that my hypertension was due to unnecessary stress and anger. I was internalizing stressful emotions that brought on the stroke. Yes, I was eating healthy mostly non-gmo plants such as vegetables, fruit, herbs, and exercise.  However, I was under a great amount of stress and I did not do very well in regulating the stress. The things that I knew to do to help me relieve the stress I stopped doing about 3 months prior to my stroke. I realize now, in doing so caused me to have a stroke. I had nowhere to store the extra energy from life, relationships, and work. As my brain began to strengthen, I remembered the natural remedies and herbs to help regulate my blood pressure but they were not working completely to stabilize my hypertension. It wasn’t until a friend sent me two boxes of Blood Pressure Tea, Within a week following my daily regime, I began to see the changes. The changes began to regulate my blood pressure. I am very convinced that the medicines I was prescribed were not working without the help of my herbs and tea. I now am preparing for a 21-day detox, however, there are some things I needed to do for myself before I begin my detox. My goal is to remove the toxins from my body that have not been conducive to my healing. Ultimately, my goal is to rid my body from the use of prescription medications with awful side effects.

When I was released from the hospital after 45 days from having my stroke, a beautiful creatress with magic hands, Lateefa Cook owner of Elite Creations Studio and Design, washed and twisted my locks for me. I started noticing when I was home from the hospital, my locs started to thin out and then I started connecting my locs together to strengthen them because of the thinning of my hair at the top of my head. I knew it was the medicines but was not sure which one was causing my hair to thin out. (I began growing my locs in 2003 and have shortened them three times.) After a year and nine months, I called Lateefa and told her what I wanted to do, and she performed her magic and cut my locks for me. She gave me a regimen or argan oil and hair conditioning spray made by Charlestina Hyde Health & Wellness Salon from Hair Therapy I see Lateefa again to keep my hair healthy and when I am ready to restart my locs. I will continue eating healthy, practice mindfulness & yoga, massage therapy, aquatic therapy, neuro-chiropractic care, exercise, gardening, essential oils, and incense.

I have been through many changes since this stroke. I have had to change people whom I thought were true friends and family out of my life, yet I have made new friends and family! I have reconnected with former friends whom I have not seen in decades thanks to Facebook. I have had to change and turn away from stressful situations and people who cause me stress. I realized the focus of my condition was partly due to me not being flexible enough to change prior to the stroke. I realize at times I must be a chameleon and I must be able to change directions, change focus, and people at times. I had to change connections from relationships.

Before a caterpillar emerges from its cocoon as a butterfly it goes through a life-changing metamorphosis. Sometimes the caterpillar does not emerge and dies. Sometimes the caterpillar emerges from its cocoon, but it goes through a life-altering manifestation and when it emerges it is a beautiful butterfly. I have learned since my stroke on October 3rd, 2017, I had to learn how to change in all ways.  Change, Changes, and Changing…. “The only thing constant in life is change”. I can always grow my locs back when it is time, but for now, I will rock my fro and enjoy my new life! Embrace all my changes that come my way even if it means to change directions completely.
